Dr.Monzer Kahf, a prominent economist and counselor states: Many things on the internet are meant to be used on the internet, you can use them as they are and you don’t need even to download them. If they are downloadable and copyrighted you may download for personal use only not for distribution or
for sale. Materials that are fully copyrighted are normally made not downloadable whereby you can read them only but cannot save them on your personal computers. On the other hand monopolizing programs and books for selling them at exorbitant prices is not permissible in Shari’ah and we must speak against this behaviour of producers and sellers.”
