Regarding zakat on a piece of land, Dr. Monzer Kahf, Scholar in Islamic Economics and a Financial Expert, stated that ‘If the land is held until its value increases, this is an investment property and that is an economic use that makes it subject to zakah. But if it is held to construct a residence in the future, it is not subject to Zakah.’
