The eminent Muslim scholar and renowned Da`iyah, Sheikh `Abdel Khaliq Hasan Ash-Shareef, states: “It is not a bid`ah to recite the Qur’an in Prayer in microphones because Mosques became very big and the voice of the Imam may not be heard for all Praying people without microphones. This is on the contrary of the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during which mosques were small.

Also, if every thing new is considered bid`ah, the Qur’an would not have been compiled and many many things would not have been done. Bid`ah is what contradicts theShari`ah and its objectives. For example, if one says that Zuhr Prayer is 5 rak`ahs, this is a bid`ah nasiyyah as it contradicts the well-established textual proofs of Shari`ah. But there is nothing wrong at all in making something new for achieving an objective of Shari`ah which is not prohibited by a Shar`i text.
