Intellectual theft in Islam is strictly prohibited under Shari’ah, regardless of the owner’s identity or the nature of the stolen content. Islamic jurisprudence recognises intellectual contributions, creative works, and proprietary knowledge as protected rights.
Prohibition of Unlawful Appropriation
Divine law strictly forbids taking another person’s property or rights without authorization. The Quran emphasizes the sanctity of ownership and ethical dealing:
“And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:188).
While acquiring knowledge and educational tools serves the broader benefit of the Muslim community, spiritual and legal principles dictate that noble ends must be pursued through legitimate, lawful means rather than illicit acquisition.
