The prominent Muslim scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Director and Imam of Al-Falah Islamic Center, Oakville, Ontario, Canada, states: “First of all, in the beginning of Islam, two ways of sexual relations were encouraged: marriage and milkul-yameen. The purpose behind milkul-yameen was to limit the unrestrained sexual relationships during that time that crossed all boundaries, and to encourage freedom of slave girls, because if someone chooses her as a wife she would become free. But when slavery has been abolished completely, the door to milkul-yameen is closed forever. So, nobody can still claim the right to practice it anymore.”
