As Muslims, we respect other people and their freedom of worship, but we do not compromise our faith just to show our courtesy. So when Muslims visit other people’s places of worship due to an acceptable reason, they should be respectful but should not do any thing that is forbidden in Islam.
Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, president of the Fiqh Council of North America, states the following: Every religion has its own places of worship and they should be left to the people of those religions. Outsiders should not go there unless there is a reason, such as interfaith program or a special occasion, such as the marriage or funeral of relative or friend.
As a Muslim, when you visit other people’s places of worship, you should be respectful but should not do any thing that is forbidden in Islam. Islam does not allow bowing or kneeling before idols, statues, or priests. You must avoid those things. If there is a prayer service in which the congregation prays to something other than God, then you should remain silent and should not sing or recite those songs or prayers.
As Muslims, we respect other people and their freedom of worship, but we must not compromise our faith just to show courtesy.
