Shyness by itself is not a problem until it begins to interfere with everyday life. Shyness when it is manifested as haya or modesty is a direct injunction upon Muslims based on the Qur’an and prophetic teachings. That type of shyness is functional because it ensures very appropriate and dignified interaction between men and women. When we aspire to be shy and modest, we are doing so to please Allah and not to appear distant or aloof or uninvolved in society.
