Dr. Salah Sultan, President of the American Center for Islamic Research, Columbus, Ohio , and Member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, states: “To put it in general terms, if the majority of the people in slaughterhouses are classified under the People of the Book, then the meat is halal, except in the opinion of the Hanafis; and if the majority are outside this category then it is not allowed.”
