As far as we know, there is no authentic hadith that talked in detail about accepting gifts from an apostate. In this regard, we would like to stress that there is an authentic hadith narrated concerning Banu Israel blaming them for sharing food, setting and drinking with those who insist on committing that which is unlawful. The hadith, which is an authentic one, reported by Abu Dawud in his Sunan, was cited in reference to the following Qur’anic verse in which Allah Almighty says, “Those of the children of Israel who went astray were cursed by the tongue of David, and of Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they rebelled and used to transgress. They restrained not one another from the wickedness they did. Verily evil was that they used to do!” (Ma’idah 5: 79)
In his Tafsir, Imam Ibn Kathir, states: “Allah states that He has cursed the disbelievers among the Children of Israel long ago, and revealed this fact to His Prophets Dawud and `Isa, son of Maryam. He cursed them because they disobeyed Allah and transgressed against His creatures. Al-`Awfi reported that Ibn `Abbas said, “They were cursed in the Tawrah, the Injil, the Zabur (Psalms) and the Furqan (Qur’an).” Allah then states that during their time, their habit was that, They used not to forbid one another from the evil they committed. They did not forbid each other from committing sins and the prohibitions. Allah chastised them for this behavior, so that their behavior would not be imitated.
